[06 ~ Video | Locked to Hayate]
[Rita is known to research topics that are interesting to her. She's also been known to steal spell ideas from sources that make themselves known. A certain young girl's recent post happens to have done both at once, and simultaneously make her intrigued, curious, and worried. Notes are taken on the bright pink death beam and she starts to get some spellwork done, but there's something nagging at her as she reads the rest of the message and responses; once she realizes Hayate has persistent medical issues that just aren't going away, and that the girl is looking for magical help, she sighs, bringing the community to bear.]
Hey, kid. I saw that you were looking for someone to take a look at you. I'm... not much of a medic, but I know someone who is, and I can probably figure out enough to know if she'll be able to help you at all.
[It hasn't yet occurred to Rita that perhaps the girl won't take well to offered medical help from unknowns that have offered their services out of the blue. Then again, even if it had, she likely wouldn't have cared anyway.]

You do? Yes, I was looking for someone. I could probably use the help.

It could just be something mundane that normal medicine can't fix, too, in which case Estelle is perfect for the job. Stupid healing magic without a blastia, I don't even... [She realizes she's mumbling and coughs slightly.]
no subject
And that's what we're hoping. The damage is able to be viewed by normal medicine, but we can't find the cause.
no subject
That's weird... If you can see what's wrong, you should be able to fix it... wait, your world doesn't have magic healing, does it? That'd be why you asked. Maybe I really do need to take a look.
[Yes, Rita, because as a 14-year-old black mage you're clearly a doctor.]
no subject
We don't, which is why I asked everyone about it.

[She starts rummaging around for things, absently getting out pen and paper to write a note to Yuri; she also pokes at the blastia that's recording her to look up that worldhop that Yayoi handily left posted, getting out more paper to write her a note too.]
no subject
[Yeah, cause no sense annoying Yayoi by using the worldhop without permission.]
no subject
[Dahngrest has books. Books that, once Rita's left her note for Yuri (basically telling him she's gone on a research trip and will be back shortly), she'll move in a certain pattern and disappear into. Arriving in the central zone that the worldhop dumps into, she leaves another note for Yayoi, this one mentioning she went to visit someone that wasn't feeling well - she knows people not on the community have access to this place. Then she sets up the exit and, with a mental image of Hayate, walks through, popping out in the girl's room and falling flat on her face.]
I could stand to make better entrances... [Her face is red from embarrassment as she stands.]
no subject
Nice to meet you in person. Have a seat if you want.
[The room is pretty spacious, enough room for a wheelchair which sat nearby within arms reach, a large bed and a huge shelf of books. Its clear Hayate doesn't watch too much TV from how well worn some of these books are.]
no subject
[Rita spends a moment appraising the room she's dropped into while she calms down a bit, apparently satisfied by the way she's making approving soft sounds. Eventually she turns back to the girl on the bed.]
On that note, I don't think I introduced myself before I barged in. Rita Mordio, mage, and top researcher at a laboratory in my world. [She holds a hand in front of her, straining for a moment... there's a very faint flame there, not much more than what a lighter would produce, which she's quick to extinguish.] Not that my magic works very well here; there's no aer, so I'm running off what's left from the last spells I cast, which isn't much.
no subject
[She nodded at that.] Aer is what you use to cast spells I take it? [She was a bright kid after all.] I'm guessing you use it as sort of a spell-fuel?
no subject
Aer is, as far as our science can tell, something in the air that we use as energy to power blastia - basically, magitechnology. Blastia do a lot for us, from lighting our cities at night, to purifying our water... the people I'm traveling with, as well as myself, use it to power artes, including my spells. [During her simplified explanation, she finds a chair and sits down next to Hayate's bed.]
I can do examination and research without aer, but I can't really cast a spell if I find anything; that'd have to wait until I can bring you to my world without attracting a lot of suspicion. [Her eyes narrow slightly as she processes what she just said; without aer, she can't defend herself if something happens. Good thing there's nobody suspicious here.]
no subject
Do you think you could do that? I know Yayoi-san's worldhop is a little rough on people.
no subject
Magic isn't necessarily hard to learn on my world, but it takes special equipment - a bodhi blastia, like this choker I'm wearing. This gem in the middle is the blastia core that makes it work. But... honestly, if you search enough, you should be able to find something. Magic seems to work in more worlds than you'd think.
[Rita's face pinks a little.] Just a little. You're right, I might need to find another way first. I'm confident going through myself, but it might cause complications if I tried to bring you. Damn, I did not think this through...
no subject
Oh I see, so in my world terms, it'd be like a magical girl's wand or something. Something to focus things through.
[She nodded at that.] Maybe if someone was carrying me, but we'd have to bring my wheelchair as well.
no subject
And even if I could carry you myself - which I doubt - I can't carry you and bring your wheelchair. I'd have to get help, and I'm not sure Yuri will approve, which limits my options severely.
no subject
And I'm guessing your healer friend is the same way?
no subject
I'm not sure. Yuri and I were in the middle of confronting her over that a little while ago, but we were... interrupted. I didn't get any research done on that yet.

[There's a faint glow from Rita and a magic circle in purest white, as she starts her examination.] Don't mind me. This might tingle a little, but I can still talk while I'm doing this. Just don't move too much.
no subject
[Watching her cast, Hayate shifted her legs out from under herself so that she could let her look at them.] Have you been working with magic long?

[She sighs.] An aque blastia is a little like a fountain. But it makes water clean, too. The lower quarter of the capital has one for the people to get their water. But the core went missing, so it doesn't work. Yuri's been chasing the thief all the way from there, across the continent, crossing an ocean, and now across another continent. He's a long way from home. I'm a long way from home.
[For once she doesn't seem to mind explaining, like she would if this were Karol. Perhaps it's that Hayate has an excuse not to know. Or maybe she's just less annoying.]
no subject
Oh I see. So it's sort of a aqua purifier but it also works as a fountain. I'm to guess that the lower quarter uses it as a way to get clean water?
[She's a smart one too.]
no subject
Yes, that's exactly it. They're stuck with river water otherwise, and that probably isn't good for them. So Yuri took it upon himself to get it back. I got dragged along because he thought I stole it.
[Sweat is beading on Rita's forehead. Is her magic that much harder to use without abundant aer?]
no subject
Really? How come? You don't look like a thief. And I don't think you'd be traveling with Yuri if you were one.
[She's a little worried since Rita looks a little winded.]
no subject
The person hired to fix the aque blastia before this whole mess called himself Mordio, which happens to be my last name. The creep stole the blastia core, and Yuri chased leads to the city of mages I live in. I went with him to clear my name.
[Rita, for her part, is nearly done with gathering what information she can. Which is good, because it's really starting to get to her.] Just a little more...
no subject
[Hayate scowled at that.] He's a bad man then, and deserves what's coming to him then. Kick him in the shins!
Careful, don't push yourself!
no subject
Give me a second to collect my thoughts, and I'll work out what I saw.
no subject
Okay. You can sit down too.
1/2
2/2
I'm sorry, Hayate.
Re: 2/2
Still she put up a brave face and nodded.] I know. The doctors were able to notice. Eventually... it'll get to my chest, and then my shoulders. At that point, I don't know if I'm going to be able to survive unassisted.
Still... thank you for coming to see me, Rita, I... [Hayate took a deep breath.] Can... I call you Rita-oneechan for a while? It's how girls my age address older women.
no subject
I... [Rita clams up for a moment, unable to continue as her mind berates her for being a huge hypocrite.] I wish there were something else I could do for you, aside from being here. So don't thank me. I... didn't really do anything. And yeah, you can call me that, or... whatever. [She's reeling from Hayate's strength of heart; Rita lost her family when she was little and turned out like this. Hayate is dying, how is she still functioning?]
no subject
[She took a shuddering breath again.] I know, somehow, it'll be all right!
[Looking at the calendar next to her bed, there was a marking on it. It read "Birthday" with a 10 marked with sparklers. She was nine, and she accepted everything.]
no subject
[After a moment, she opens her eyes again and notices the calendar. If she remembered Hayate's mention of the date correctly, that's not far off...] Your birthday's coming up soon?
no subject
Yes, my birthday is in a little while. A couple of weeks, provided time doesn't go weird between worlds again. Last time a whole month had passed, and it doesn't seem like it's doing it again.
no subject
Hey, Hayate. Would... you mind if I came to visit for your birthday? Probably nothing fancy, but we can celebrate, at least. I'm sure some of the others on the community would be willing to come by, too. [Rita is trying very hard not to think about the fact that Hayate might not have another birthday coming after this one.]

[Rita finally breaks off, sitting back and looking at Hayate, with a sad smile.] I know I haven't been here a long time today, but I probably should get back... Yuri is probably waiting for me. I left at a little bit of a bad time, but I wanted to figure this out first.
no subject
And thank you, so much for doing this for me. It's really appreciated.
no subject
[She shakes her head.] I'd better stop stalling, otherwise I'll be here all day. [Rita starts pushing books to leave.] But if anything happens, you know how to reach us. [Click, as the odd chained book makes a faint sound at the movement.] And even if not, talk to us anyway. [Click.] Talking to you'd be better than listening to Karol ramble about monsters any day. [Clunk, as the bookshelf shines.]
Bye, Hayate. I'll be back in a few weeks. [She waves, ready to hop through.]
no subject
[Hayate smiled, waving at her as she watched Rita prepare to make the world jump.]
no subject
I made that girl a big promise. How the hell am I gonna organize a party on another world... wait! If I ask the others...!
[She laughs a little to herself as she starts outside, glancing down at the duck around her neck, fire in her eyes.] I might be able to pull this off after all.
